Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few questions homeowners usually ask the American Porch Company:
Why would I need a front porch?
Aside from the fact that improving your front entrance can enhance your home’s overall value by more than 6 percent, a front porch from the American Porch Company can help provide protection for your guests, front entry and even your foyer.
Doors, hardware and trim exposed to weather eventually rot and fade. Sun, snow and rain damage can create the need to replace interior flooring, doors and doorframes, sidelights and transoms.
A front porch can substantially reduce and even eliminate those headaches. And, an American Porch helps protect guests on those cold, rainy nights as they wait for the door to be answered. Just imagine during the holidays – a front porch makes an ideal setting for decorations.
How much does it cost?
The average price of our porches (4’ x 6’) is about $3,900 – an incredible value especially considering the time and money you’ll save over the years because of our no-hassle, low-maintenance construction materials.
Can I customize the design of my porch?
There are many options to choose from, which will help enhance the style and personality of your new porch. We currently offer six designs to complement your home. And, you can select a number of options to customize your selection, including fluted columns, corbels, copper roofs, and mahogany tongue and groove ceilings.
Can I keep my porch railings or will you install a new railing for my porch?
Often, we can incorporate your current railing into the design of your new porch. If you would prefer to purchase a new railing, our sales representatives will be happy to show you the selection of railings we sell and install.
Will you add lights to my porch?
We will be happy to work with your electrician to make sure your porch design accommodates the lighting fixtures you desire. If you are merely replacing your current lighting fixtures without altering any of the wiring, we will be happy to install them for you.
How is the porch attached to my home?
Installation usually takes one day because we pre-construct many of your porch’s components prior to our arrival at your home. While each application is different and depends on the type of façade your home has (e.g., brick, stucco, vinyl, siding, etc.), our porches are typically bolted to the front of your home and are supported by our weight-bearing cast fiberglass columns so the entire unit is structurally sound and exceedingly sturdy.
Do I need gutters?
Normally, the roof will displace the same amount of water as your existing concrete pad currently does, so they are not typically needed. Nevertheless, should you want additional drainage, we will be happy to provide that service.
Will I need to paint my porch?
While you don’t NEED to paint your porch, we recommend you give your new porch an initial coat of paint in order to ensure the overall color and appearance is consistent. Fortunately, you will not need to paint the porch frequently in order to maintain it since the porch is covered with solid PVC vinyl and the columns are made of cast fiberglass.
Will the porch be easy to install without a lot of disruption to my home?
Most porches can be installed within one day. And we take great care not to disrupt landscaping and lawn ornaments. We will work with you to ensure a smooth and careful installation.
How do I pay for my new porch?
Before your porch project begins, you will pay a deposit in order for production of your porch to begin. The balance is due immediately once installation is complete.
